Data Science @ MTSU – Embrace the Future

At Middle Tennessee State University, our Data Science program offers a dynamic and interdisciplinary education at the undergraduate (BS), master’s (MS), and doctoral (Ph.D.) levels. Designed to prepare students for success in one of the fastest-growing fields, our curriculum blends core principles and recent innovations from Computer Science, Mathematics, Economics & Finance, and Information Systems & Analytics.

What sets MTSU apart is our thriving data science community. Our faculty come from across MTSU, bringing unique expertise from diverse academic departments which gives students access to a wide range of perspectives and mentorship. Students also benefit from year-round events, workshops, and speaker series that connect them to the latest tools, trends, and real-world applications of data science.

The MTSU Data Science Club is a student-run organization that provides hands-on learning opportunities, collaborative projects, competitions, and social events that build skills and foster friendships. The club and its events are also great additions to a resume. Additionally, the MTSU Data Science Institute supports applied research and industry partnerships, where students can work on meaningful projects with real-world clients.

Each year, our Alumni Showcase Event brings back graduates working in top data roles across the country. This signature networking event gives students the chance to hear first-hand career advice, explore internship opportunities, and connect with MTSU’s growing professional network.

Internships are a key part of the student experience at MTSU. Our students gain valuable experience with companies ranging from local startups to Fortune 500 companies, applying their data science skills to solve real problems before they graduate.
